Simple is Best

My summer this year was full of what felt like more downs than ups and it was over in the blink of an eye. I never got to do all the goals I wanted to , but I still have some time before winter sets in and I have to travel south. These three images I shot on Shelter Island are quite simple I know and yet they are extremely tranquil to me at the same time. The beach for me as I am sure it is for a lot of people is my escape, my meditation, my way to step away from it all.

Philadelphia, PA

These Images are from Philly, PA another road stop on my travels from Florida to New York. Philly is so full of history and has this awesome collaboration of historic preserved buildings and modern high-rises, This makes for an interesting dynamic. I was able to spend a day in the city so to make the best use of my time I did a bus tour; this was my best way to see as much as possible. The little bit of walking that I did have to do was full of tulips & trees in bloom, it was so beautiful! I do wish I could have seen more but what I got to take in was fantastic!

St. George, South Carolina

These few images were from my venturing around St. George, South Carolina that we stopped at during my drive north from Florida. One thing that I have started to appreciate more is the fact that we actually have to get off of the highway for gas, food, bathrooms whatever it is we need, instead of car / truck stops every so many miles. Forcing you to actually to see the small towns of america. It just so happens that this little town had a few of the things that I am attracted to most… abandoned houses and rust ! Of course it is a shame that an entire hotel , Ice Cream Stand and a few houses were abandoned but it made for a little bit of fun for me, taking a stretch from the long drive. Its sad to see towns that have the beginnings of a ghost town, but on the flip side for people like me it is a plus I get to show what once was through art, well it is art to me anyway. Creating beauty out of desolate, dilapidated, deteriorating buildings and objects.

It’s Been a While

I have been gone for a while and in all honest I hope this never happens again for this amount of time! A lot of events have happened since my moving back to NY some for the worse but thankfully even more have been for the better. Through these events I have been brainstorming and came up with a few possible project and series ideas that I hope to be working on very shortly! I’m excited to see the outcome.

Here are a couple of images from my traveling up the east coast from Florida back to NY, We made a few stops in NC and PA along the way! These images came about because we stopped for gas and lunch in St.George SC. Besides the beautifully abandoned rotting houses, hotels, & old Ice Cream shacks ( These images will be coming soon!) I found Fireworks in the gas station and I had to get Sparklers, because as soon as I laid my eyes on them I thought only one thing….Painting with light! It was a lot of fun except for the fact that I had more mess up images than good ones, Thats always the catch when you’re in the dark.

Admiring Nature

I spent my day yesterday roaming around Downtown West Palm Beach and playing a few holes of golf in Wellington. While doing so I was attracted to all of the different plants I walked past. There is just something about the shape, textures, and colors of the plants and trees that thrive in Florida that I find interesting. Various kinds of Palms, Flowers and my favorite the Banyan Tree. The root system is what draws me to it the most I believe as well as the size they can reach. I would like to have one some day!

An Idea…

Originally I was unsure about posting these images, they were outtakes from my other Lensbaby images. I was played around with the Lensbaby “Creative aperture rings” which causes a Bokeh effect. After looking though them a few times I had an idea, Hopefully my idea will play out; we shall see?

Change of Focus

The couple of images here were shot with a Lensbaby. One of the best things about using your Lensbaby is the total control you have over everything. You have total artistic freedom with your “sweet spot” (area of focus), how large or small you want the spot to be and where in the frame you choose to be in focus. It is sort of like but not quite like having a 4×5 camera, only a lot lighter and easier to work with.

Manatee

Today I ventured to MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach. I was hoping for a little more of a swamp trailed area but what I found was great! There is a small area of trails, a nature center, kayak rentals, a long board walk across Lake Worth Cove that was full of Kayakers, Fish, and Manatees. On the other end of the board walk you have a beautiful stretch of beach on the ocean where you can enjoy a swim; at your own risk (no lifeguards). They even have a complementary tram that takes you across the boardwalk, it isn’t that far of a walk but it is helpful if you have a disability or with children toting lots of beach toys and chairs.

Here are a few images of a Manatee Cow and Calf they hung out fairly close to the board walk so it made for a great viewing area, I cant wait to return to go kayaking with all of the wildlife!

Windy Day

Here are a couple of other images from my windy walk at the Wellington Environmental Preserve at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Everglades Habitat (It’s a mouth full!). Although it was a little difficult getting some shots because of the wind it made for a gorgeous sky with large clouds and crisp blue sky’s. A few of the younger trees were full of Spanish moss, lichens, and other young version of air plants I found the way the light was flickering though the braches made for some beautiful light.
