Great Falls National Historical Park

No better time for a government shut down like Fourth of July Weekend. These Images were taken at Great Falls National Historical Park in Paterson, New Jersey. I am still learning about what New Jersey has to offer, it has a lot to explore but not much can be done when they close all the beach and parks.

Polaroids

Over the past couple of years I have found Polaroid cameras at various thrift stores. I figure why not use them to create a series. I had my father help me with converting my land camera to take AAA batteries instead of the hard to find expensive one needed. Because of the cost of Polaroid film this project will be a constant effort and very selective with my shots, I am going to be very picky. I cant wait to see how it comes out !

oxidize

Oxidation is something that occurs all around us. For most people this is a bad thing, an annoyance that has ruined their car, tools, bike, etc. For me though it is amazing, I love the changing of colors, how an object can go from the perfect specimen to an unrecognizable object when photographed close-up to show the layers of texture and color changes. I have always had an obsession with broken, run down places and objects…. as if you couldn’t tell  ?    Hope you enjoy these images.

Painting with Light

Painting with light is always a fun time, the results are always amazingly unpredictable and unexpected. You could literally use any form of light source imaginable which makes it the best part. In this set of images the light source was sparklers, my painters were my Sister  and Mother-in-law.

Essex County Asylum Finale

Here they are the last images from my adventure in the Essex County Asylum. Hopefully there are still buildings left for me to check out one last time before its completely demolished.

Essex County Asylum

On Monday I had the pleasure of walking the halls of the abandoned asylum in Cedar Grove, NJ it was simply amazing! From what I understand the grounds have been closed for ten years or so everything was left in an odd standstill. Some of the furniture was clearly from kids going in to hang out/ party and just vandalize the place I love the eerie stillness…Abandoned and beautiful more to come !

Watchung Reservation

Watchung Reservation is a huge park that borders five towns in New Jersey. I am slowly working on hiking through it , it might take me awhile!  Spring was not quite in full bloom when I went but I was able to find some fiddle heads and cherry blossoms. In one section they have an “abandoned village”  of course I was disappointed to see that the houses were boarded up but the wood was is in very unsafe conditions, if parts of the floors were there at all. I was also surprised to see that out of the ten or eleven building left four are still lived in, kind of spooky! I hope to get back now that things are blooming!!
