oxidize

Oxidation is something that occurs all around us. For most people this is a bad thing, an annoyance that has ruined their car, tools, bike, etc. For me though it is amazing, I love the changing of colors, how an object can go from the perfect specimen to an unrecognizable object when photographed close-up to show the layers of texture and color changes. I have always had an obsession with broken, run down places and objects…. as if you couldn’t tell  ?    Hope you enjoy these images.

Rockefeller State Park

On Halloween we took an adventure to New York we started in Pleasantville making our way though Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, and Croton on the Hudson. In Pleasantville we started out with a lovely hike at the Rockefeller State Park Preserve, where you hike on the  carriage roads that John D. Rockefeller Jr. created for friends and family to enjoy the natural beauty of the land his family owned. On the hike we passed through Stone Barns Center for food and agriculture’s pastures where we were able to see cattle relaxing, sheep going for a walk and not to mention beautiful sights of Bluebirds. Be sure to check back for the Halloween fun we had in the most historic place to celebrate the holiday…..Sleepy Hollow!

Painting with Light

Painting with light is always a fun time, the results are always amazingly unpredictable and unexpected. You could literally use any form of light source imaginable which makes it the best part. In this set of images the light source was sparklers, my painters were my Sister  and Mother-in-law.

Essex County Asylum

On Monday I had the pleasure of walking the halls of the abandoned asylum in Cedar Grove, NJ it was simply amazing! From what I understand the grounds have been closed for ten years or so everything was left in an odd standstill. Some of the furniture was clearly from kids going in to hang out/ party and just vandalize the place I love the eerie stillness…Abandoned and beautiful more to come !

Watchung Reservation

Watchung Reservation is a huge park that borders five towns in New Jersey. I am slowly working on hiking through it , it might take me awhile!  Spring was not quite in full bloom when I went but I was able to find some fiddle heads and cherry blossoms. In one section they have an “abandoned village”  of course I was disappointed to see that the houses were boarded up but the wood was is in very unsafe conditions, if parts of the floors were there at all. I was also surprised to see that out of the ten or eleven building left four are still lived in, kind of spooky! I hope to get back now that things are blooming!!

Yesteryear

I recently went to the Bluegrass and BBQ festival hosted by the Yesteryear Village at the south Florida fair grounds. This was the second year for this three-day festival and although they had more food options than last year it is still quite small. The music was great!! These images are from around the village I hope to get the rest of the images up before I have to pack up and head north ! On the plus side if I am sad-fully leaving Florida that only means Summer is around the corner.
